Self-Made Web Designer

Update from Self-Made Web Designer

Episode Summary

The Self-Made Web Designer podcast is pausing until July 7th. There is an important conversation that is happening right now concerning racism and diversity. It's my heart to give space for that conversation to be fully heard. So, I am pausing for the rest of the month to listen and learn how I can be an active part of the solution. My hope is that by giving space for what's happening with racism and racial diversity we'll begin to see some actual, lasting change. We'll resume again on the first Tuesday of July with some amazing guests. The episodes have already been recorded and I'm excited for you to hear them. Until then I'm leaving some resources that have helped me on my journey. I hope they can give you some good insight and help you as they've helped me.

This past week, I've been doing a lot of thinking and processing and praying and listening and having conversations. And the thought that I keep coming back to is that there is a very important conversation happening in our world today that is way more important than any conversation that I could create concerning web design. That conversation is about racism. So I wanted to give a very brief episode to let you know that the self-made web designer podcast is going to pause for the rest of June, and we will resume on July 7. And the reason for that is I'm hoping to make way for the conversations that need to be had concerning the racial divide in our world. I also want to take some time to learn what I can do to be an advocate; to be more proactive in helping the situation rather than hurting. So I want to encourage you to find other conversations to listen to, find other podcasts that are talking about what's happening or find some resources to read or to watch. I will leave some, again in the episode notes for you. And these are all things that I have watched or read or listened to myself, and that's why I feel comfortable recommending them to you. The mission of the self-made web designer podcast and self-made web designer, in general, is to help people figure out how to have a thriving freelance web design side hustles or full-time career. And if there's any space that needs more diversity, it would be the tech space. So I'm gonna figure out how I can do better to help promote that racial diversity. And I hope that you would do that with me. We're coming back July 7, and I've got a lot of great people that I've already interviewed and their episodes are essentially waiting in the queue to be released. Great people like Brad Hussey, who, from his online videos taught me how to build WordPress themes. People like Chris Coyier, from CSS tricks, Sara Doody, who is a UX portfolio specialist, and I'm excited for you to hear them. But I'm more eager to see this conversation about racism move forward to where we finally see some actual change in our world. I can't wait to see you again on July 7. Until then, I wish you all the best.
